Description

Devil Mountain Wholesale Nursery invites you to the Grand Opening of our Petaluma store!

We've created a fantastic 20-acre nursery with endless variety and the excellent customer service we've built our reputation on since 1995. We're excited to have this new location in the North Bay, and we can't wait to share it with you! We have a great day planned including tours of the nursery, a BBQ lunch, and a talk by Janet Sluis, Horticulturist and Curator of the Sunset Western Garden Collection. Visitors will learn more about Sunset's plant selections designed specifically for the Western gardener and grown by Devil Mountain at our Clements growing ground.

Also on hand will be Tom Ewing from Proven Winners, John Antonelli and Doug Parkinson from Four Star Greenhouse (annual propagators of Proven Winners plants in Carleton, Michigan), and Jeff Pipp from Spring Meadow Nursery (shrub propagator of Proven Winners plants in Grand Haven, Michigan). Tom, John, Doug, and Jeff will be able to provide information about their plants and answer your questions.

ABOUT OUR SPEAKERJanet Sluis

As a sixth-generation member of a Dutch seed family, Janet Sluis suspects that plants are in her DNA. By the age of six she was hybridizing ranunculus and growing kale in her garden. After studying marketing, horticulture, and agricultural business, Sluis spent twenty years in production and product development for wholesale plant nurseries in California. Today, she evaluates, writes, and speaks about new plant introductions and how to use them in a garden setting. She also works with breeders, hybridizers, and nurseries all over the world in search of worthy plants. Her plant collection test garden is shown in Kathy Brenzel’s latest book The Sunset Western Garden Book of Easy Care Plantings. When she is not traveling, you can find her battling slugs in her organic Berkeley test garden.

Our Grand Opening is also a chance to give back to our community. We are proud to announce that 100% of ticket sales will be donated to Rebuild Wine Country, an organization working to raise $5 million to rebuild owned and rented homes lost in Sonoma, Napa, Solano, Mendocino and Lake counties due to the recent wildfires. 100% of funds raised will benefit those most in need through local Habitat for Humanity affiliates, which are all tax deductible, 501(c)3 organizations. Donation, volunteer and long-term partnership opportunities are all available at www.rebuildwinecountry.org.

Located at the base of its namesake Mount Diablo, Devil Mountain Wholesale Nursery was established in 1995 to find and procure any plants necessary for customers’ design specifications, and to expand the limited plant and tree palette available to landscape architects, designers, and contractors. Devil Mountain evolved from solely brokering plants to also growing plants in its quest to meet customer needs and maintain top quality. The acquisition of BrightView Tree Company in 2020 enhanced Devil Mountain’s availability of quality grown trees and marked the company’s expansion to Southern California. Today, Devil Mountain serves as a single-source provider for landscape professionals across California from its ten nursery locations.
